scientific method in Minecraft
There are some Key Steps to the Scientific Method.
1). Ask a Question Think of something that does not have an obvious answer. Example: "Can pigs walk on ice?" or: "What is the best weapon to kill a creeper? " 2). Do Background Research Find out as much as you can about your topic that is already known. Example: "Pigs are found in the _______ biome, pigs are able to jump _____ blocks; Ice melts at ______ rate, it can be stacked like ______," ... etc "People say that _________ is best to kill a normal creeper; Diamond swords are the best swords because__________, Creepers do _______ when _________ comes near them" ... etc 3). Construct a Hypothesis "If [I do this], then [this will happen]." Example: "If I place pigs in an enclosed area, with carrots on one side and ice in the middle, then the pigs will be able to cross the ice and get the carrots." "If I hit a creeper with an enchanted sword [insert details], then it will die faster than if I hit it with any other type of weapon." 4). Plan your experiment. Make sure your test is fair by determining what your controls (in Minecraft, there are many) are and what your one (1) variable is. Example: For the pigs and ice experiment: Variable: pigs Controls: the enclosure and the carrots. Experiment Plan: I will set up my area and spawn 4 pigs. I will first make sure the pigs can walk to the end by putting carrots at the end and not anything in the middle, just grass. I will then put cobblestone there to make sure they can walk on that, too. Then, I will put ice down and see if they can walk on that. Finally, I will put ice down and record what happens (time how long it took // did the pig fall through? // Did the pig walk in a straight line?). ANY and all data/observations are useful! 5). Test your Hypothesis by doing an experiment Record any and all pertinent data. Record any time trials. Make note of anything that you did during the experiment. REMEMBER - what are your controls, and what are your variables? 6).Analyze your Data and Draw Conclusions Example: "I have concluded that pigs can walk across ice."
